FAQ's
Why should I convert to an alternate fuel?
You should convert your vehicle to operate on an alternate fuel
for three main reasons. The first reason is economic as alternate
fuels throughout the world are traditionally less expensive than
gasoline (petrol). The second reason is environmental as alternate
fuels are capable of providing fewer harmful emissions than gasoline.
Finally,
the conversion of vehicles to operate on an alternate fuel in
countries where there is local abundance of that fuel, allows
for a reduction of imported gasoline. However, there must be a
fueling infrastructure available to convert vehicles so you can
refuel the vehicle.
Are natural gas and propane the same fuel?
No, natural gas and propane are two different fuels. Natural
gas is a high-pressure gaseous fuel that always stays as a gas.
Natural gas is lighter than air so if it leaks, it escapes into
the atmosphere. Propane on the other hand is a low-pressure fuel
and is stored as a liquid. The propane emits a vapour and it is
the vapour that the vehicles operate on. Propane is heavier than
air so if it leaks, it puddles much like gasoline does. Propane,
being a liquid has a higher density, therefore provides greater
vehicle range than natural gas given the same volume of fuel storage.
Propane storage tanks and natural gas storage tanks are not interchangeable
as one is high pressure and the other is low-pressure system.
Natural gas is compressed to a high pressure much like a scuba
divers air tank so requires a high-pressure compressor to fill
the tank.
Are all conversion systems the same?
No, all conversion systems are definitely not the same. There
are various levels of technology in vehicle conversion systems
as well as different levels of the actual components. There is
also a major difference in the quality of manufacturing as well
as safety standards that the conversion kits are made to. Different
countries manufacture their systems to different safety codes
and standards so the selection of the conversion system should
be carried out with great care. When you are purchasing a conversion
system do not think that all kits are equal and merely opt for
the cheaper kit. Cheap, basic conversion kits are lower priced
because they contain fewer components to reduce the price and
are manufactured to a lower standard. A cheap, basic conversion
kit will not allow the vehicle to run properly or provide good
fuel economy or clean emissions.
Why would I choose to convert my vehicle to operate
on Propane (LPG)
Propane is the fuel of choice when greater vehicle range is required.
Propane is stored as a liquid so has greater density than natural
gas thus providing more range. Propane can usually deliver similar
vehicle range as gasoline. Propane is a low-pressure fuel so the
conversion cost is usually less than natural gas as the cost of
the fuel tank is less expensive. Typically in North America, a
propane-converted vehicle will save approximately 40% fuel costs.
This value will change in various markets but propane is typically
more economical than gasoline.
Why would I choose to convert my vehicle to operate
on Natural Gas (CNG)
Natural Gas is the fuel of choice when vehicle range is not an
important issue and when natural gas is in abundant supply. Natural
gas converted vehicles will typically deliver about a quarter
of the vehicle range of gasoline. Natural gas is popular in countries
with abundant natural gas resources and no oil resources. The
use of natural gas in these cases reduces the need for oil imports
and therefore reduces the countries foreign exchange. Natural
gas will provide economical vehicle operation and reduced vehicle
emissions.
Will Yugo-Tech work with my company to develop a conversion
system that is right for our vehicles?
Definitely yes, Yugo-Tech routinely assists companies and cities
etc. in various markets throughout the world to select the appropriate
conversion technology to suit their particular requirements. Yugo-Tech
assists parties in viability studies to analyze and recommend
the appropriate technology that will satisfy the technical requirements
of the vehicles that will be affordable to fit into their local
market economy. Yugo-Tech will manufacture the conversion systems
to satisfy the host customer’s safety and emission standards.
Yugo-Tech will assist in technology transfers for foreign markets
on large conversion programs to allow for local content.
